Which part can you take out?
- Guitar backing track — mute the guitar stem and play the riffs and solos yourself.
- Drumless track — mute the drums and keep bass, guitars, keys and vocals to play along with.
- Bassless track — mute the bass and lock in with the kick drum.
- Piano or keys track — mute the piano to comp the chords yourself.
- Instrumental — mute the vocals to sing or play the melody.
Synths, strings, pads and other sounds go to a sixth stem, "other", which you can keep or lower as you like.
Make a backing track on iPhone
- Import the song — MP3, M4A, WAV or FLAC from Files, your music library, Camera Roll, Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud or a public link.
- Separate it into vocals, drums, bass, piano, guitar and other.
- Mute your instrument, or keep it quiet while you are still learning the part.
- Set the tempo and switch on the metronome in half, full or double time.
- Export the mix as MP3, WAV, FLAC or M4A if you want to rehearse with it elsewhere.
A practice routine that works
Start with your part still audible at around a third of its level and the tempo at 70–80%. Once you can play along cleanly three times in a row, lower the original part further and raise the tempo. Finish with the part muted and the song back at full speed — that is the version you will play live.
Open the chords view while you practise: seeing the harmony helps you understand the part instead of memorising it.
What to expect from the separation
AI separation estimates each instrument from a finished mix, so results depend on the recording. Bass and drums usually come apart well. Parts that share the same range — a distorted rhythm guitar and a synth pad, for example — can bleed into each other or into the "other" stem. Listen to the section you care about before relying on the track at a rehearsal.
Common questions
Can I remove only the guitar from a song?+
Yes. Vocal Remover separates the guitar into its own stem, so you can mute it and keep the vocals, drums, bass, piano and other sounds.
Can I make a drumless track?+
Yes. Mute the drums stem and keep the rest of the band. Turn on the metronome if you want a click while you play.
Can I change the tempo of the backing track?+
Yes. The app detects the song's BPM and lets you change the tempo, so you can start slow and work up to full speed.
Can I export the backing track?+
Yes. Export your mix or individual stems as MP3, WAV, FLAC or M4A. Vocal Remover is free to download and lets you hear the separation on a short preview of a song. Full-length songs need Premium, a weekly plan with a 3-day free trial or a monthly plan.
