How to slow down a song on iPhone

  1. Import the song and let the app separate it into vocals, drums, bass, piano, guitar and other.
  2. Check the detected BPM so you know the target speed.
  3. Lower the tempo to 70–80% of the original for a first pass.
  4. Focus on your part — raise your instrument and lower the others, or mute it to play it yourself.
  5. Switch on the metronome in half, full or double time to keep your timing honest.

The tempo ladder

Pick one difficult passage. Play it at 70% until you get three clean takes in a row, then move to 80%, 90% and finally full speed. If you start making mistakes, step back down instead of forcing it. Short daily sessions on the same passage beat one long session.

Who it helps

  • Guitarists learning solos and fast riffs.
  • Drummers working out fills and ghost notes with the drums stem isolated.
  • Bass players following lines that are buried in the mix.
  • Singers and rappers learning fast verses, with the lyrics on screen.
  • Dancers breaking down choreography at a slower count.

Keep the key while you slow down

Pitch and tempo are separate controls in Vocal Remover, so slowing a passage down doesn't mean practising in a different key. If you do want to transpose — to match a guitar tuned down a half step, for example — move the pitch on its own.

Common questions

Will slowing down the song change its pitch?+

No. Tempo and pitch are separate controls in the app, so you can slow a song down and keep it in its original key.

What is the BPM detection for?+

It tells you the original tempo of the song, so you can set a target, follow your progress on the tempo ladder and sync the metronome.

Can I slow down just one instrument?+

The tempo applies to the whole song, but you can raise the instrument you are learning and lower or mute everything else in the stem mixer.

Is the tempo control free?+

Vocal Remover is free to download and lets you hear the separation on a short preview of a song. Full-length songs need Premium, a weekly plan with a 3-day free trial or a monthly plan.
