How to find the chords of a song on iPhone

  1. Import the song — MP3, M4A, WAV or FLAC from Files, your music library, Camera Roll, Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud or a public link.
  2. Let the app analyse it. It separates the stems and detects the key and the chords.
  3. Play the song and follow the chords as they change.
  4. Isolate the guitar or piano to hear the voicings and the rhythm of the part.
  5. Slow it down where the changes come fast.

Getting the most from chord detection

  • Treat the result as a starting point. Detection describes the harmony of the song; extended or altered chords can appear in a simpler form, so confirm them by ear.
  • Listen to the bass. Raising the bass stem makes inversions and slash chords much easier to hear.
  • Check the key first. Knowing the key tells you which chords to expect and makes unusual ones stand out.

From chords to playing

If the song sits in an awkward key for your instrument, move the pitch and play it with simpler shapes — or use a capo and keep the original key. Then mute your instrument in the mixer and play the chords yourself over the rest of the band.

What the chord finder doesn't do

Chords are displayed in the app while you play; they are not exported as a chart or a PDF. Exports contain the audio — the stems or your mix as MP3, WAV, FLAC or M4A.

Common questions

Does Vocal Remover detect the key of a song?+

Yes. It detects both the key and the chords of the song and shows them in the app.

Does it work for piano as well as guitar?+

Yes. The chords describe the harmony of the song, whatever instrument you play. You can isolate the piano or guitar stem to hear how the part is voiced.

Can I export the chord chart?+

No. Chords are shown in the app while the song plays. Exports cover the separated stems or your mix.

Is the chord finder free?+

Vocal Remover is free to download and lets you hear the separation on a short preview of a song. Full-length songs need Premium, a weekly plan with a 3-day free trial or a monthly plan.
